What do you mean by gently used clothing?

All clothing that we receive must be freshly cleaned and should not be damaged in any way. Please don’t send us anything with:

  • Fading
  • Pilling
  • Stretched or misshapen fabric
  • Stains or discoloration of any kind
  • Odors
  • Rips, holes, tears, snags or runs in the fabric
  • Missing or damaged fasteners: buttons, zippers, ties, hooks, snaps, etc.
  • Missing manufacturer’s tags
  • Shrinkage
  • Broken or stretched elastic in sleeves, waistbands, etc.
  • Holes, scuff marks or worn-through areas in shoes and boots
  • No decorations added after the item was purchased—including bedazzling, metal or rhinestone studs, fabric paints, embroidery, fringe, tie-dye or beading.

Why won’t you take clothing with missing labels?

We use information on the labels to help determine the correct resale price for donated clothing. If we don’t know who made it, we can’t accurately figure out its worth. We’ve also found people are reluctant to purchase clothing online that has a torn or missing label. Our goal is to accept and sell as many items of clothing that will raise money for schools.

Why are name brands preferred over discount brands?

We accept all brands. However, we prefer name brand clothing as our goal is to help your school raise as much as possible. We have found that brands like Boden, J.Crew and Tea Collection raise the most due to their high resale value. The market price on used discount brand clothing just does not raise enough for schools. It often costs more to process and sell them than the price for which the item can be resold.

What sizes do you accept?

Here’s the deal on sizes: We sell clothing for babies, kids, juniors and women. That said, we understand that many middle or high-school age boys can wear men’s sizes. So our rule of thumb is if a high-school guy would wear an item, we’ll accept it, even if it’s in a men’s size.

Are there any clothing items you don’t accept?

We do not accept any type of undergarments, including underwear, bras, undershirts or socks. The resale value is too teeny-tiny to benefit our schools. We do accept tights and swimwear, but only if they are new with tags.

I just ordered a donation bag. When will I get it?

We do our best to mail a bag to you the very day you request it. It should arrive within 3 and 7 business days, barring overwhelming demand or bad weather. We ship bags using economy methods so that we are able to maximize the money we send back to schools.

How much clothing fits in a bag?

Our bags are pretty darned sturdy. They can hold between 15 to 20 pieces of clothing each. Don’t be afraid to stuff it full—there is no weight limit for shipping.

Can I order more than one bag at a time?

Right now, we can only send out one bag per request. If you are interested in having a group donate on behalf of your school, please contact a fundraising coach (help@schoola.com) for information about setting up a clothing drive!

Will you pick up my bag from anywhere in the world?

Currently, we can only send and pick up donation bags in the 48 contiguous United States. We cannot fulfill bag requests for Alaska, Hawaii, Guam, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa or countries outside the U.S. We’re hoping to expand our reach, so check back in with us from time to time!

What happens to my clothes after I send them in?

Once we receive the clothing, we sort it, determine the resale prices of qualifying items, take a picture of each one, and get it up for sale on Schoola.com. Your school receives 40% of the sales proceeds from each item sold, less the cost of shipping for the inventory to reach our warehouse. You can find your items and track your fundraising progress on your school’s very own Schoola fundraising page. We issue checks twice a year, in July and January.

How will I know when my donation has been received?

You should receive an email when your bag has been received, and once accepted items begin to become available on our website. It can take up to 21 days for items to be listed, depending on the volume of donations we are processing at any given time. It is in our best interest to process the items and get them up for sale quickly, so we assure you that we will do our best to handle donations lickety-split!

How are the resale prices determined?

We have a team of industry experts on hand that help ensure your item is priced at the appropriate value. Moreover, we are gathering data on an ongoing basis to make sure that our pricing is optimized and up to date! We want to give parents a great deal and help schools at the same time. Our resale prices vary on the quality of the piece, but will generally be 30-90% off of new retail value

What happens to clothes that don’t meet your standards for resale?

100% of the clothes that do not meet our standard for resale are sold via bulk channels with 40% of the proceeds (less the cost of shipping donations to our warehouse) going to the donating school.

Why didn’t you take all of my clothes?

Schoola wants to ensure we provide the highest quality of clothing—we only want to sell items that we’d feel comfortable giving to a friend. If an item does not meet our criteria or is damaged, we do not put it up for sale on our site. We can often still monetize your donation via other channels such as bulk fabric recycling—if we are able to do this, we share 40% of those proceeds with your school as well.

Can you return unaccepted items to me?

Currently we are unable to return clothes that we can’t sell. The shipping and handling costs are simply too prohibitive. As mentioned above, we still do our best to turn those items into money for your school via other partners. Please be very sure that you are ready to part with your items before sending them on to us.

Can I get a receipt for my donation?

Schoola is not set up as a nonprofit organization so donations are not tax deductible and we are not able to provide receipts.

Will we be notified when a check has been issued to the school?

If a check is issued to a school that you have donated to, we will update you via email when the check is on its way.

Can you tell me how much money my school is receiving?

You can track your fundraising total at anytime on your school’s Schoola Page. In addition, if you are a registered donor with us, you will receive a quarterly update regarding your school’s fundraising progress via email.

When will my school get the money?

We issue checks twice a year in July and January. There is a $20 threshold that each school must raise in order for the check to be released. If the threshold is not reached, the money raised will be rolled over to the next period.

Can the check be made out to someone other than the school?

We created Schoola to help raise money for schools, so the check will be sent directly to the school or PTA—you can customize whose attention it should be sent to by contacting your fundraising coach. If there is something in particular you want the funds to go toward, we recommend coordinating with the school administration or PTA so they know where to direct the money that has been raised.

Can my church/other organization set up a Schoola clothing drive?

At this point, only entities with a core curriculum can raise money with Schoola. We have several successful schools that have enlisted their entire communities to gather donations: including church groups, parents’ clubs and even scout troops. So you can by all means team up to extend the reach of your drive and maximize your earnings. However, every drive needs to associated with a school.

I couldn’t find my school in your database—how do I sign up?

Most schools in the US can be found on our Schools page, which is a great place to start if you would like to shop or donate for the benefit of your school. However, if your school is not listed here, please contact us at hello@schoola.com and we can have your school added—any school with a core curriculum can participate and we want to hear from you!

It’s pretty cool, when you think about it—all of the inventory on our site was donated on behalf one of our 16,000 participating schools. Anyone can donate to Schoola—each donation supports our mission of helping kids reach their full potential at school.

What sizes do you carry?

We offer clothing from infant sizes through juniors and teens and we recently launched our women’s shop! You can find specialty sizes as well: Shop petite, plus-sized and maternity items at Schoola. New items are being added every day!

You can filter any page of products down by the size you are interested in by using the size filters presented down the left size of each page. Just click the size tile (e.g. Preschool Girls), select the sizes you’re looking for and then click "go."

Can I save my sizes or frequent searches?

You can save your searches by creating a custom collection. Your custom collections will be saved with your email address, and new items are being added to our site everyday. So each time you log in to Schoola, you should see new items that match your criteria.

I have a coupon. Where can I see my discount applied?

If you have a coupon that offers you a discount off of your order total, you may need to add items to your shopping cart in order to see that your discount has been applied. Enter your email address and your coupon code in the designated boxes on our checkout page, and if your order total reaches any minimum value required to receive the discount, you should see it reflected in red text in your itemized order total.

My coupon or credit is not working - are there any exclusions?

Coupons and credits do not apply to new with tags items. Please make sure your order total reaches any minimum amount before tax, shipping and new with tags items are included.

I was referred by a friend. Where can I see my discount?

If a friend has shared a referral credit for you to use on your first order via their unique referral link, you may need to add items to your shopping cart and fill out your billing and shipping information in order to see that your credit has been applied. I referred a friend who placed an order. Where can I see the credits I have earned?

If you have successfully introduced friends to Schoola, congratulations! You should be able to see your credit balance on your referral page (make sure you are logged in to your Schoola account). If you don’t see the total you were expecting to see, it may be because of our "one referral per household" rule. If you have questions you can see our program terms & conditions here. You will see your referral credits deducted from your itemized order total when you log in with your referring email address and add items to your shopping cart.

I’m placing my order using referral credits, and my order total is $0.00. Why do I need to enter payment information in order to check out?

Our system requires that a valid method of payment be entered in order to complete checkout, even when the order total is $0.00. However, your card will not be charged for any amount you do not explicitly authorize at checkout, so you can go ahead and enter the payment information, verify that your balance is what it should be and submit your order!

How long before my order arrives?

Orders ship lickety-split! They will be on their way to you in 1-3 business days from the purchase date. Depending on which shipping method you selected at checkout, your order will arrive a number of days after processing, depending on the mail carrier.

  • Super Saver Shipping: usually arrives in 8-14 days
  • Ground Shipping: usually arrives in 5-7 days
  • Two day Shipping: usually arrives in 3-5 days

You will receive an order confirmation email, and a shipping confirmation email complete with tracking information once your package is on its way. As package volume and severe weather increases, so can the time required to get your goodies. Please use these estimates as guidance. What do you charge for shipping?

Super Saver shipping for orders totalling $25 or more (before tax) is free! But we also offer expedited options for an additional charge.

  • Super Saver Shipping: $6.99
  • Ground Shipping: $8.99
  • Two day Shipping: $14.99

Depending on the method you choose, your loot will usually arrive within 3-14 business days, so shop to your heart’s content! We will handle the rest.

I noticed that my order benefitted the "Schoola Scholars Fund"—what is that?

Occasionally we receive donations that are not designated to benefit a particular school. We pool the funds raised by selling these donations and designate them to causes we believe in. For instance, Schoola is donating a portion of the proceeds from the sale of undesignated items to send 10,000 students to see the upcoming film "He Named Me Malala" as part of a partnership with Students Stand with Malala .

What is your return policy?

One way we accomplish offering great prices and distributing maximum funds to our school partners is by selling all of our garments and accessories as "final sale." We are unable to accept returns. Although we always do our best to catch imperfections when we accept items, if you receive an item that is not as described, please let us know within 14 days of its receipt.

How can I delete my shopper account?

Currently, our system does not have a way to delete registered accounts. However, your account will remain inactive if you do not use it, and you can opt out of our newsletter at any time by clicking unsubscribe at the bottom of any Schoola email.
